Acharya Vinobha Bhave
This Magsaysay Award winner was an intellectual person with lot of sensitivity for human kind. Following the principles laid by Gandhiji he had a special place amongst the Indians. His efforts were recognized by the Government and they awarded him the Bharat Ratna after his death.
A linguist and a professional translator, Acharya Vinobha Bhave realized the problem of people in not able to comprehend Sanskrit books. He trasalted the same to make it available for the common man to understand the doctrines in the Gita and other spiritual books. He was bestowed with the quality and conviction to follow Brahmacharya and was respected for the same.
A profound social worker he wanted to change India and change the mould of people socially. He also had his time in jail during the British rule, which was utilized to teach his inmates the tenets of Gita. He also backed Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for the emergency situation in India.
He launched the magazine Maharashtra Dharma and his power for writing was also used as medium to reform the society. He was greatly influenced by his mother as she had explained the principles of simple living. He also wanted to change the method of cultivation in farming without bullocks and also spread the importance of minimalistic living.
