Dr Amartya Sen
Inspiration often comes without actually knocking at our doors. Dr. Sen in his autobiography narrates how a communal incident caused the death of a poor Muslim laborer and this instilled Dr Sen’s quest for doing something about economic independence of our country. His campus journey from Delhi to Oxford itself is quite an achievement.
His Nobel Prize was awarded for his great research and solutions in welfare economics, gender inequality and human philosophy. Apart from his contribution towards economic welfare he was also known to emphasize on the gender inequality and wrote in the New York Book of reviews about missing women actually reflecting to the mortality rate of Asian women. His article was controversial but valid economic conditions which needs improvement.
Dr Sen was known for his other religious writings, despite being an atheist. He received the Bharat Ratna in 1999. His works also made people think about equality between rich a poor and to work out solutions that are important for a democratic free country. His researches on food distribution, famines and basic survival for economic reasons have been very helpful for India.
