Fairy Tales
Fairy tales take us to the land of make believe. Remember listening to the enchanting tale of Alice in Wonderland and imagining yourself fighting against the Red queen? Yes, that’s the effect of a fairy tale. They instigate out imagination beyond the realm of possibility and take us to a world of fantasy. Anything can happen while listening to a fairy tale like Ali Baba and forty thieves! If you find your child saying ‘Open Seasame’ in his/her dream, don’t be surprised. We all love magical-mystical happenings taking place in fairy tales.
So how can we define fairy tales? One, these stories are primarily fictional stories and second, they essentially have the elements of mystery, fascinating creatures, puzzling lands and talking animals etc. Fairy tales thrive on fantasy and magic. Fairy tales have always been hugely popular amongst the kids of all age groups. It does not really matter which part of the globe the kid resides in, he will certainly have a fascination for fairy tales. Initially, these tales had some dark and brutal references to disturbing factors but most of these tales were modified later on. That explains the differences in versions of same story at different places. Fairy tales not just mesmerize kids but also teach them valuable lessons. For instance, Alice in Wonderland tells kids not to wander too far from their homes.
Most of the fairy tales have happy ending. That conveys the message of victory of good over evil. As mentioned earlier, there are significant differences in different versions of the same tale. However, these stories have managed to retain the essence despite the changes in versions. Grimms fairy tales written by two German brothers Jakob and Wilhem Grimm are quite popular in many parts of the world. The brothers helped in preserving numerous centuries old fairy tales.
